The Assist By Knight Foundation strives to touch the lives of the people in the community in many different ways. Brevin and Deena both understand the importance of a healthy mind, body, and spirit. It is because of this understanding that the Knights have broken the programs that they work on into four categories:

THE ASSIST BY KNIGHT SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded annually to a deserving student who has maintained a commitment to education in spite of an endured hardship. The first recipient is a student at Winston Salem State University. In spite of a difficult childhood, she always looked toward the future and understood that education was the one and only vehicle with which to change her life. During her Senior Year of high school her family was forced to reside at a homeless shelter. This tenacious young woman managed to keep a positive outlook, despite long bus rides to school and late hours worked at a fast-food restaurant. She truly is an Assist By Knight scholar.
TICKETS FOR KIDS
Rewards children for academic success and/or improvement with tickets to NBA games and a chance to meet Brevin and other players. Previous recipients have included members of Boys & Girls Club (Cleveland & Memphis), YO! Memphis, and residents of the Salvation Army Center of Hope.
REVEREND B.F. JOHNSON FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Partner since 2000. Over 70 scholarships rewarded.
NBA READ-TO-ACHIEVE

Throughout his college and professional career, Brevin has participated in and been a supporter of youth athletic programs. His early exposure to these programs helped not only to develop his skills on the court, but also to establish a sense of self-discipline and a competitive spirit that has been vital to life off the court.
FUTURE STARS FUNDAMENTALS BASKETBALL CAMP
Established in 2004.
Our philosophy is to promote the development of the TOTAL athlete while creating a fun-filled environment which:
- Stresses the relationship between academics and athletics.
-
Emphasizes the concept of team play and sportsmanship.
-
Teaches the basics of passing, dribbling, shooting, and moving
without the ball.
Fully committed to the camp, Brevin has partnered with AND1 to create a unique experience. He has deliberately priced the camp at an affordable $125.00 per week (versus $400 for other area camps), so as to service the local community of Newark, NJ. Brevin does not just endorse this camp, he works there as a coach and even picks up lunch for those kids who have come without food. ASSIST also works closely with the NJ Housing Authority, which sponsors campers and provides much needed transportation.

PROJECT BLOOM
Project Bloom is the personal project of Deena Knight. She believes if we plant a seed of hope with kind words; we water it by supplying basic needs; and we fertilize it by arranging extraordinary experiences we can help children to blossom into that which they were created to be.
In 2005, after a tour of the Salvation Army's Center of Hope in Charlotte, NC, Deena developed a passion for serving the needs of homeless children. Through her interactions with the children at the center she encourages them to look forward to the future and to reject hopelessness. She encourages the children to set goals and she always provides them with journals and inspirational books to learn how to express themselves in a productive way. She is committed to introducing them to beauty and color so as to inspire bright and vivid dreams.
Project Bloom provides young women with:
- Motivational interaction and personal involvement
- Collaboration with the Salvation Army Center of Hope
- "Girls on a Mission" Program

The mission of ASSIST also includes support for organizations that assist individuals living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). This cause is rooted in Brevin's personal experience. At an early age Brevin learned that his uncle was diagnosed with MS. Brevin witnessed the vast emotional and physical challenges that diagnosis placed on his uncle as well as his family. While new medications and treatments are being developed, there still is no cure. Amenities such as walkers, wheelchairs and access ramps can greatly improve the overall quality of life for those stricken with MS. Brevin is committed to helping individuals gain access to these resources and to helping organizations fight this debilitating disease by:
- Donating to National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) special events, including the MS Challenge Walk, the MS Walk, and the 150 Bike Tour
- Sponsoring NMSS event participants
-
Providing financial assistance to organizations that research and provide assistive technologies and provide information services on assistive products
