Prom season is back in full swing and everyone is desperately looking for the perfect makeup, hairdo, and dress. But for three girls at Myers Park High School, the expenses associated with this big day are no longer an issue.
On April 16, three Myers Park seniors (Lashawn Austin, Megan Corson, and India Ezell) were
chosen as the winners of the “Overcoming Adversity” essay contest and will receive complimentary formal wear, jewelry, hairstyling, makeup, nails, prom tickets, and transportation, courtesy of the Assist by Knight Foundation.
Local businesses and residents have partnered with the foundation to help turn these extraordinary girls into belles of the ball. The foundation would like to recognize the generosity of the following: The Omni Charlotte Hotel, Jessica McClintock (South Park), Serenity Image Consulting, A Perfect Ten Nail Salon, Cache (South Park), The Bobby Phills Foundation, and Charlotte residents, Ruby Cooper, Justin Ervin and Kim Alexander (Mary Kay Director).
In a related story, Ruby Cooper, was so inspired by the Knights' generosity and the girls' stories that she decided to personally sponsor India Ezell's twin sister, Asia. What started as a small act of kindness has blossomed into a community effort that these four deserving young ladies will never forget.
If you would like to contribute to future Assist by Knight Projects, contact Domenick Nati at assistbyknight@yahoo.com. In the meanwhile, you probably know someone who could benefit from a similar gesture, perhaps a neighbor, relative or church member. Why not sponsor them and then write to us and tell us what you did? We may even feature your act of kindness on this site. It doesn't take much to make difference!
