First Assist by Knight Scholar Completes Freshman Year

April 26, 2007

It was only a year ago that we made the acquaintance of April Evans when we were introduced to a hard-working young lady in need of a prom makeover. What a difference a year makes! April has just finished her first year of college and will be helping with the Prom Princess makeovers on May 5, 2007. In addition, she is currently seeking a summer internship. Here is what April had to say about her scholarship and what the foundation has meant to her:

"Tuition, Room& Board, Books and the classes that I take are just some of the necessities that I use everyday on campus, but rarely do I think of how it is possible for me to enjoy the luxuries of a college education without thinking of a special woman, Mrs. Deena Knight, who helped to get me there, through the Assist by Knight Scholarship Foundation.

"When I was living in the Salvation Army [Center of Hope] I met Mrs. Deena Knight along with [fellow Bobcats wife] Mrs. Donna Jones. They were a breath of fresh air in my life and they inspired me to reach for the stars and to look beyond the present. These two ladies were the prefect role models for me at the time I needed them the most. They encouraged me spiritually and academically to be the best me that I could be despite where I was living.

"The Assist by Knight Foundation helped me to get to the place in my life that I am in now. It has helped me to maintain my GPA and to get involved in campus activities such as Student International Association (SIA) and the MBA club. I have continued to use their wisdom and knowledge as a guide for my journey through college. I am eternally grateful that I was given the opportunity to be the first recipient to receive the Assist by Knight Scholarship."
