Sptember 6-7, Harrah's Tunica
May 3, 2008 - Four underprivileged girls from a Charlotte High School traded in their casual spring attire for the most elaborate makeover they could have ever imagined.
This was the third year the Knights have hosted this event. Through Deena's "How can I make a difference in my community?" essay contest, the girls received complimentary formal wear, jewelry, hairstyling, makeup, nails, prom tickets, and transportation,
courtesy of Project Bloom.
When local business heard about the program they wanted to contribute too! We received discounts and donations from, A Perfect 10 Nail Salon, Silver Fox Limousines, Charlotte Omni Hotel, Nordstom, and Jessica McClintock.
On December 20,2007 the Assist by Knight Foundation gave Toys R Us certificates to members of its mentor group that had B averages in school and a 90% attendance so that they could have a Merry Christmas.
Assist By Knight Foundation is proud to have sponsored the 3rd Annual Celebrity Charity Golf Event. This year's Gold Event was held at the Ridgeway Country Club in Memphis, Tennessee on September 17th.
It's been four years since NBA point guard, Brevin
Knight, played for the Memphis Grizzlies, but on
September 17, 2007 he displayed a
different type of "home-court" advantage when he
invited
friends and supporters of his Assist By Knight
Foundation to golf in the 3rd Annual Assist by Knight
Golf Event, held at Ridgeway Country Club in
Germantown, TN.
The event had previously been played outside of
Atlantic City in Brevin's home state of New Jersey,
but was moved to Memphis due
to a mutual admiration between Brevin and M-town's
residents. "We
have made Memphis our home, and felt it would be
beneficial to the foundation to host our event in a
town where we have so many friends and great business
relationships," says Knight.
The gamble paid off when Horseshoe Casino became a
major partner.
The Casino agreed to house the out-of-town golfers and
VIPs as well as host the Pre-Golf Party on Sunday
night. Those in attendance enjoyed a silent auction,
featuring sports memorabilia and fashion
items, as well as a surprise, live performance by
renowned R&B artist, Carl Thomas. Gift bags, provided
by FUL Backpacks, were stuffed
with cool t-shirts courtesy of local specialty
boutique, Maria's.
Special guests, included active and retired NBA
players: Keith Bogans (Orlando Magic), Ike Austin
(retired), and Cedric Henderson; TV personality,
Omarosa Stallworth (The Apprentice); several New
Jersey golfers and other notable Memphians.
The festivities continued Monday morning at Ridgeway.
Golfers were
treated to gorgeous weather, continental breakfast,
and golf on one of Tennessee's best courses. During
lunch, sponsored by the Knights' alma mater, Stanford
University, the Assist by Knight staff informed guests
of recent and upcoming projects and reminded everyone
of the foundation's goal to assist as many people in
life as Brevin does baskets, on the court. Beautiful
trophies were presented to the morning's best golfers,
but the true winners will be be the beneficiaries of
some of the upcoming Assist by Knight charitable
efforts: which include scholarships, affordable
basketball camps, toy giveaways, Prom Makeovers and
more. According to event chair, Deena Knight, "This
was our most successful event, to-date.
The goal is to continue to grow and make this event
something that
people will talk about and look forward to attending.
Of course,
the main objective is to raise funding and awareness
for our charity, but we wanted this to be fun and it
was." Adds Brevin, "We couldn't be happier with the
reception and the support, I'm already looking forward
to next year!"
